Second Chance Program
This innovative program started in 1998 when we developed a partnership with The County of San Diego Department of Animal Services.
RCHS takes dogs and cats from the three county shelters (and other municipal shelters) which are unable to hold their animals very long as they must constantly make room for the seemingly never ending influx of unwanted animals.
We are a limited admission shelter, so we are able to keep our adoptable animals longer. That means that these dogs and cats are given a "second chance" for adoption, and are given a new opportunity to find a loving home.
We'd love to hear from you!
If you adopted one of our "Second Chance pets", we'd love to hear from you! Your story will be published on our Success Stories page to let the world know why it's great to adopt a shelter pet. Please add a picture of your dog or cat if possible! Send your success story to: rita@rchumanesociety.org. And please don't forget to mention that you would like it published on our website!
